An oxygen absorber is a small sachet containing a granulate with a mixture of different compounds, including iron, covered by a specialised paper that is water, dust and grease resistant and permeable to oxygen. Iron in contact with moisture and oxygen forms iron oxides, consuming oxygen as a result of the chemical
reaction itself. As a result of this reaction, the environment has an oxygen
concentration of less than 0.1%. The absorption process stops when all the iron dust has been oxidised.
